Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers and technical staff, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and accountability.
- Establish and enforce departmental goals, priorities, and performance standards aligned with district objectives.
- Coordinate with district leadership, Maintenance & Facilities, other District Departments, Construction Services, and Project Management Firms (PMFs) to align engineering services with the district’s capital improvement plans.
- Oversee review of all engineering design plans for new construction, additions, and renovations to ensure compliance with district design standards, building codes, accessibility requirements, and sustainability goals.
- Provide technical guidance during project planning and design phases, ensuring designs are cost‑efficient, safe, and functional for educational needs.
- Collaborate with architects, consultants, and engineers to resolve technical issues and optimize project designs.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to approved plans, specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Establish construction quality assurance procedures and oversee inspections, testing, and acceptance of completed work.
- Resolve construction‑related technical issues in coordination with contractors, PMFs, and district staff.
- Maintain and update the district’s Engineering Design Standards and technical specifications, ensuring consistency across all projects.
- Support internal and external audits by maintaining accurate documentation of engineering reviews and construction oversight.
- Develop and manage budgets for engineering services, design review, and construction quality assurance.
- Monitor project expenditures, recommend cost‑saving measures, and ensure responsible use of district resources.
- Participate in procurement processes, including review of engineering scopes, consultant/contractor proposals, and bid evaluations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field required.
- Master’s Degree from an accredited university preferred.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) in the State of Texas required.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, construction oversight, or facilities design, including at least 5 years in a leadership role required.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, educational facility design standards, and construction quality control practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering principles in MEP, structural, and civil disciplines.
- Strong understanding of construction management, cost estimation, and project scheduling.
- Familiarity with educational facility standards, building codes, and accessibility requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and lead cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with project management software.
