Water Resources / Hydraulics & Hydrology Engineer
Location:
Dallas, TX
Do you live and breathe hydrology and hydraulics
? Are you energized by solving drainage issues, building stormwater strategies, and supporting dynamic land development projects across North Texas? If so, this is your kind of role.
We’re seeking a Water Resources Engineer with strong hydraulics & hydrology expertise to join a collaborative civil engineering practice in Dallas. This position is centered on hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, drainage analysis, and stormwater management in support of land and site development — from mixed-use and residential communities to commercial and institutional projects.
What You’ll Do Every DayAs a key member of the team, you will:
Perform rigorous hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and analysis for stormwater systems, channels, culverts, and open conveyance networks using industry-standard tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, and similar modeling platforms).
Lead development of stormwater drainage studies, flood mitigation strategies, detention/retention sizing, and regulatory compliance documentation aligned with local and state criteria.
Interpret aerials, topographic surveys, soils and GIS information to assess watershed behavior, develop model inputs, and evaluate design alternatives.
Prepare technical reports, drainage design documents, and calculation packages that clearly communicate assumptions, results, and engineering judgments.
Collaborate with civil/site design teams to integrate H&H insights into overall engineering solutions for land development projects — including grading plans, stormwater controls, erosion mitigation, and construction implications.
Engage with regulators, permitting agencies, and review authorities to support approvals and demonstrate compliance where required.
You’re an analytical and practical water resources engineer with:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering (water resources emphasis preferred).
2+ years of experience in hydrology/hydraulics analysis, stormwater design, and H&H modeling on land development projects — transitively including residential, commercial, mixed-use, or public sector site work.
Strong proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM) and familiarity with Civil 3D or comparable CAD tools.
A solid grasp of local stormwater design standards, drainage criteria, and regulatory review frameworks.
Excellent communication skills — both written and verbal — with the ability to explain complex technical analyses to multidisciplinary teams and reviewers.
Hands‑on technical leadership: You won’t just check boxes — you’ll shape how drainage and water resources engineering integrates into large land projects.
Growing workload: H&H modeling and stormwater management remain core activities for every development — so your expertise will be in demand.
Collaborative environment: Work alongside civil engineers and planners who value your insight and rely on your expertise to drive project success.
Dallas location: Thrive in a fast‑paced engineering landscape with opportunity to grow your career in water resources and site development.
