OverviewDue to continued growth, TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking more Commissioning Engineer IVs to support our Client Teams. Topical responsibilities include managing utility substation protection, control, and power circuits, and working closely with our electric utility customers. Applicants should be open to traveling to multiple sites, including the Mid‑Atlantic region.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre‑commissioning, construction, testing, energization, project close‑out) of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC’s and Client’s requirements, budgets, and schedules.
- Review wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents prior to projects and outages.
- Perform trouble‑shooting and problem analysis for protection and control systems and substation equipment, identifying issues such as wiring errors, settings errors, equipment malfunctions, and battery ground faults.
- Participate in project meetings—kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons learned.
- Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports documenting progress, issues, recommendations, test results, and analyses.
- Assist in developing project‑specific testing and commissioning plans or energization plans.
- Identify risks and develop site risk assessments to formalize circuit isolation and restoration procedures, ensuring safe operations.
- Ensure all tests and commissioning activities are performed per project documents and that results are permanently recorded and distributed.
- Develop and review detailed test reports for electrical equipment.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited institution, with related experience in testing and commissioning services. Training will be provided for candidates with experience in complex commercial–industrial equipment.
- 7+ years of related experience, preferably in electric utility testing and commissioning; candidates with medium‑ and high‑voltage substation experience are strongly considered.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, manufacturer specifications, and schematic diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, relay communication, AC/DC schematics, wiring, and interconnection diagrams.
- Experience with medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment, including basic apparatus testing and result.
- Solid commissioning knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits.
- Test experience with Doble Protection Suite, Pro Test, SEL AcSELerator, or Enoserv RTS is highly preferred.
- Valid U.S. work eligibility, U.S. driver’s license, and willingness to travel out of town for up to several weeks.
- Availability for flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays, and night work.

Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors. Employee may also be eligible for the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program, contingent on performance.
