Civil Engineer/Project Manager - Urban Development

Role

Description:

Huitt-Zollars, Inc. offers a full‑time opportunity for a Civil Engineer (Eng V) with 8‑10 years of experience who is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas. The role leads projects in our Urban Development Practice Area, providing leadership, guiding business development and managing projects in the Dallas‑Fort Worth, TX region (and beyond as needed).

Location: Dallas, Texas

Employment Type: 40‑hour full‑time

Reports to: Urban Development Principal‑in‑Charge

Compensation Type: Salary

Registration(s): Professional Engineer

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)

Duties:

  • Prepare preliminary engineering reports.
  • Research jurisdictional requirements for incorporation into design and construction drawings.
  • Prepare proposals/contract documents and project work plans and schedules.
  • Create design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and research data.
  • Coordinate client management and marketing efforts for future work.
  • Prepare GIS exhibits using ArcGIS.
  • Conduct site visits and document findings.
  • Work directly with clients and direct a staff with varied experience.
  • Attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes; assist with general project correspondence.
  • Write or prepare graphic materials for presentations or documents.
  • Lead a team of engineers and drafters.
  • Initiate and lead kickoff or high‑level design calls with clients and prepare monthly forecasting and client cost estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and follow comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning.
  • Review project reports and performance metrics to track progress and budget; lead successful projects (profitability, schedule, quality, client satisfaction).
  • Contribute to successful delivery and performance of projects.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Follow Huitt‑Zollars’ business processes, including weekly rhythm.
  • Pursue new business and support sales goals; assist or lead teams in new work proposals and development.
  • Implement HZ QMS and quality initiatives; ensure quality control measures on projects and daily operations.
  • Train, coach, and mentor junior staff.
  • Maintain necessary job knowledge and technical skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Texas.
  • 8‑10 years civil engineering design experience, with at least 2 years as a Project Manager.
  • Experience producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports.
  • Proficient in Micro Station, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D (a plus).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Direct client interaction and staff direction across experience levels.
  • Train staff and review work for quality assurance.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, self‑motivated, meeting deadlines and solving complex problems.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Willingness to assume increased responsibilities when presented.
  • Proactive client communication and escalation when issues arise.
  • Builds client relationships that facilitate communication and problem solving.
  • Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, implementing and documenting them.
