Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing assigned projects while also serving as the primary technical resource for the Project Management team. This role balances day‑to‑day project ownership with deeper technical leadership, supporting more complex or technically nuanced work through interpretation of structural documents, resolution of design and constructability questions, and preparation of technically advanced RFIs.

The Project Engineer works directly with engineers of record, architects, detailing teams, and suppliers to clarify design intent, address discrepancies, and ensure accurate execution. This position acts as a trusted internal and external resource on structural steel, joist, and deck‑related matters while maintaining accountability for successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Engineering Support
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for the Project Management team on matters related to structural drawings, joist and deck systems, load requirements, gauges, and connection details.
  • Interpret contract documents, structural drawings, and specifications to identify technical risks, discrepancies, or constructability concerns.
  • Support assigned projects and broader team initiatives by proactively identifying technical issues that may impact schedule, cost, or constructability.
  • Communicate directly with engineers of record, architects, detailing teams, and suppliers to clarify design intent and close technical information gaps.
  • Lead and support preparation of technically complex RFIs and review responses for accuracy and completeness.
  • Troubleshoot conflicts between design documents and supplier or fabricator requirements, recommending practical, code‑compliant solutions.
  • Provide informal technical coaching to Project Managers on topics such as load paths, diaphragm requirements, and appropriate deck type selection.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of technical checklists, drawing review standards, and submittal workflows.
Project Ownership & Execution
  • Manage a portfolio of assigned projects from order through delivery, ensuring alignment with contract documents, schedules, and customer expectations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers on assigned projects, with responsibility for both technical and execution‑related coordination.
  • Review project estimates versus actuals, assist with change orders, and support invoice and payment follow‑up as needed.
  • Coordinate with sales, accounting, and operations to resolve issues impacting project execution or delivery.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation within internal systems.
