Power Testing and Energization Project Manager
WSP is seeking a Project Manager to manage projects for our Power Testing and Energization (PTE) group within the POWER Delivery Department. Candidates may work remotely full-time from a mutually acceptable location; periodic travel to WSP offices may be required.
Job DescriptionWe are looking for candidates with strong business acumen, experience in business development (must be a seller/Doer), and a solid background in electrical testing and commissioning. The role involves managing multiple short‑term or long‑term projects that can last from a day to several months and will cover distribution, transmission, and substation testing projects.
Responsibilities- Lead the project planning process including initiation, engineering involvement, construction coordination, testing and commissioning, and final project close‑out.
- Manage project implementation including schedule, budget, and resources including external vendors and contractors.
- Serve as the primary project authority for assigned personnel on major project‑related issues.
- Direct project team and lead the project management process.
- Track metrics, report to stakeholders, and ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate, and departmental procedures.
- Play a significant role in business development and proposal preparation.
- Develop scope of work, budgets, schedules, and related documents.
- Manage testing services on utility systems from 15 kV to 765 kV class.
- Provide internal mentoring and leadership to junior team members.
- Lead project teams in a matrixed reporting environment.
- Organize internal and external project status meetings.
- Interface with other POWER divisions as necessary.
- Travel regionally and nationally with some clients.
- Promote company culture and manage internal and external relationships.
- Manage status reporting, invoicing, accounts receivable and unbilled amounts for each project.
- Work primarily with PTE, but may interface with all POWER Business Units.
- Travel primarily to regional clients, with occasional nationwide travel.
- Demonstrated Project Management skills including CPM scheduling, budget and cost analysis, managing teams, proposal writing, client marketing, and presentations.
- 10+ years of professional experience in construction, testing and commissioning, and/or electric power and communications.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering, electrical, civil, or structural.
- Experience in large‑scale project management or lead engineering on complex electrical projects.
- Knowledge of project management processes and tools.
- Familiarity with utility processes and experience managing testing and commissioning projects.
- Successful track record of leading project teams.
- Working knowledge of industry‑standard testing requirements.
- Successful client interfacing experience.
- Familiarity with CPM scheduling and estimation.
- Understanding of project management techniques and approaches.
- Valid driver’s license with clean record.
- Same degree or experience requirement as above.
- 10+ years in construction, testing, commissioning, or electric power and communications.
- 8+ years leading projects as a Project Engineer or Project Manager in a utility environment.
- Experience on large/complex electrical projects.
- PMP certification.
- Professional Engineer registration.
- Existing relationships with regional electrical utilities to market testing services.
Base Salary Range: $ - $ per year.
