Department SummaryThis is a grant‑funded position in the Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology. The HOPE grant is a UNT Dallas program supported by a five‑year (2022‑2027) federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA). It focuses on providing Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to a large audience so they can recognize signs and symptoms of mental illness and identify community resources.
The trainer will coordinate and deliver the training programs to the target populations consistent with best practice.
Deliver the MHFA curriculum to participants in accordance with best practice and coordinate training logistics such as materials and registration.
Minimum Qualifications- Excellent customer service skills and effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks independently
- Proficiency in keeping complex records, assembling and organizing data, and preparing reports
- Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
- Responsible, reliable, and punctual
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the work of others
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the MHFA curriculum
- Skill in giving full attention to others, asking questions appropriately, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
Bachelor's in sociology, psychology, public health, or any other related field.
Required License/Registration/CertificationsMental Health First Aid instructor certificate
Job Duties- Deliver the MHFA curriculum to participants
- Assist with training logistics such as scheduling sessions and registering participants
- Promote the training event in the community
- Collect participant data during the session
- Communicating with others to exchange information
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing
- No adverse environmental conditions expected
