Position SummaryThe High School English & History Teacher designs and delivers engaging, high-quality instruction in English Language Arts and History that meets the diverse academic and developmental needs of twice-exceptional learners. This role requires close collaboration with colleagues to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students are challenged with rigorous content while feeling encouraged, understood, and valued.
Key Responsibilities- Instruction:
- Plan and teach high school English and History courses (e.g., Literature, Composition, World History, U.S. History, or integrated Humanities courses) using differentiated and student-centered instructional strategies.
- Adapt curriculum, reading materials, and writing assignments to meet individual student strengths, needs, and learning profiles.
- Assessment & Growth:
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments; provide meaningful feedback to support student growth in reading, writing, discussion, and historical analysis.
- Create a respectful, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, civil discourse, and resilience.
- Work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and support staff to align learning experiences and contribute to the school’s mission.
- Communication:
- Maintain regular, proactive communication with students and families regarding academic progress, goals, and support needs.
- School Community:
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and initiatives that support the overall school culture.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in English, History, Education, or a related field
- Teaching certification or eligibility for certification in Texas
- Strong content knowledge in both English Language Arts and History
- Experience teaching high school English and/or History
- Experience working with gifted, neurodiverse, or twice-exceptional learners
- Experience with differentiated instruction and student-centered teaching approaches
- Familiarity with innovative instructional practices, discussion-based learning, and educational technology
- Interest in interdisciplinary and project-based learning opportunities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to fostering a growth mindset and supporting students’ academic and social-emotional development
- Flexibility, creativity, and a passion for working with high-potential learners
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to build meaningful relationships with students
- Dedication to continuous professional growth and collaborative practice
