Department SummaryThe Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology is an interdisciplinary department that consists of multiple undergraduate and graduate programs, including Emergency Services Administration. The programs are designed to put theory into practice through a combination of curriculum and experiential learning. With a robust department of highly experienced faculty, graduates of each program are prepared to make an immediate impact in their chosen field.
Position OverviewThe successful candidate (Program Director) will be expected to lead the day-to-day operations and activities of the new UNT Dallas National ESA program and teach the equivalent of 2 courses per semester. The Director will recruit and further develop the ESA program as a national program which became a standalone major in the Fall of 2026. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for the hiring and evaluation of adjuncts for the ESA program along with student advisement for both current and matriculating students.
The Program Director will be expected to network with Federal, State, and local partners to build a strong rapport and reputation for academic excellence in the program in Texas and beyond. In addition, the Program Director will interface with first responder and community partners including but not limited to community colleges, high schools, and first- responder agencies throughout Texas and the nation.
Duties will also include providing programmatic information about the ESA program to state and federal agencies as required.
- Master’s degree in Fire Science, Paramedicine, Emergency Management or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education
- Strong evidence of significant work experience from 5 to 7 years in fire service, emergency medical services or emergency management
- Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and curriculum development
- Evidence or demonstrated potential for program recruitment and management.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully develop academic or professional programs.
