Salary: $15.00 – $18.00 per hour
Founded in 1997, Girlstart’s mission is to increase girls’ interest in STEM through informal, nationally recognized programs. We operate after‑school, summer camps, community STEM programs, and an annual girls’ conference across Texas, Boston, and the Bay Area.
Responsibilities- Deliver engaging STEM activities to groups of 20‑25 girls during after‑school sessions (typically 1‑1.5 hours each).
- Prepare lesson materials, manage classroom environment, drive to program locations, and ensure post‑session cleanup.
- Attend scheduled office hours once weekly at the North Texas office in Dallas to review curriculum, practice activities, and discuss classroom management.
- Participate in mandatory ongoing training and program reviews.
- Report to the Satellite Program Manager for program details, office hours, and additional responsibilities.
Program leaders are expected to lead two after‑school programs per week, scheduled around 2 pm (programs run 3‑4 pm). This equates to approximately 6 hours weekly (2 program days plus 1‑2 office hours). Availability on Monday‑Friday afternoons is required; limited Monday & Friday options are available.
Qualifications- Preferred experience working with children.
- Strong desire to empower girls in STEM.
- Reliable transportation (or driver’s license for at least 1 year) to drive to program sites.
- Comfortable presenting to small groups of girls.
- Basic classroom management skills.
- Proficiency with Google Drive apps.
- Excellent time‑management skills.
- All majors welcome; STEM background not required.
- Enhance leadership and teamwork capabilities.
- Improve presentation, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Serve as a positive female role model.
- Work with a diverse peer group.
- Hands‑on experience for future educators including curriculum writing and teaching style refinement.
