Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Liver Transplant Anesthesiologist to join our dynamic and expanding Liver Transplant Team. Our center is a busy transplant program, performing approximately 120–130 liver transplants annually. The ideal candidate will have completed a Liver Transplant Anesthesiology Fellowship or demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a dedicated career in liver transplantation. Prior experience in liver transplant anesthesia is highly desirable.

About the Program

Our multidisciplinary transplant team currently consists of seven members, and we are looking to grow to meet increasing patient demand. The program is supported by experienced hepatologists, transplant surgeons, intensivists, and transplant coordinators, fostering a highly collaborative and collegial environment. Importantly, the majority of liver transplants are performed during daytime hours, allowing for a balanced and sustainable call schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide anesthesia care for liver transplant surgeries and related hepatobiliary procedures.
  • Manage perioperative care of complex liver transplant patients, including preoperative assessment and postoperative recovery.
  • Collaborate closely with transplant surgeons, hepatologists, and ICU teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in general operating room (OR) call coverage in addition to liver transplant call responsibilities.
  • Call schedules are separate and do not overlap, ensuring a manageable workload.
  • Contribute to patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical excellence initiatives within the program.
  • Teach and mentor residents and fellows.
  • Participate in clinical research and academic activities as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree (or equivalent).
  • Board certified or board eligible in Anesthesiology.
  • Completion of (or current enrollment in) a Liver Transplant Anesthesiology Fellowship preferred but not necessary.
  • Prior experience in liver transplant anesthesia highly desirable.
  • TEE (Transesophageal Echocardiography) Basic or Advanced certification ideal but not required.
  • Strong commitment to patient care, teamwork, and academic excellence.
