Position: Facility Architect Assessor (ACP Sponsor Engagement)

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings, seeks a Facility Architectural Assessor. The candidate will be responsible for conducting condition assessments in City-owned buildings. The selected candidate will assess the physical condition of the exterior and interior building components, as well as the building’s overall code compliance, sustainability, and resiliency. They will outline immediate and potential problem areas to facilitate informed decision-making and prioritization.

The role involves coordinating and advising on ADA surveys being performed concurrently to synthesize findings. The candidate will record existing conditions, analyze code and local laws, and prepare facility assessment reports suitable for budget planning purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid New York State Registration as an Architect is required. Candidates must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, with at least two (2) years as an administrative architect.

Preferred Skills

Candidates should have a thorough understanding of building construction methods, materials, and assemblies, especially for older 19th and 20th-century buildings. Expertise in forensic diagnosis of deterioration, distress, and failure issues is highly desirable. An up-to-date understanding of construction and material costs is also important. At least three (3) years of relevant field inspection experience is required. The position requires physical ability to conduct site visits, including accessing stairs, catwalks, ladders, rooftops, and basements within multi-level buildings, and maneuvering through confined spaces.

Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential. A valid motor vehicle driver’s license is required.
