Job Description ; to fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Dallas College Board of Trustees and outlined in the Dallas College Board Policy Manual; and to comply with both state and federal policy.

Primary teaching responsibilities may include Recording Technology courses (Audio I, II, III and IV), and other recording technology, MIDI, production, live sound or audio-related coursework as appropriate. Duties may also include instruction related to studio recording, signal flow, microphone techniques, Pro Tools based workflows and certification preparation, depending on the candidate’s expertise and program needs.

The ideal candidate will approach instruction from a musician-centered perspective, with an understanding of how recording, production, and sound reinforcement support performers, ensembles, and audience experience. Successful candidates will have experience working across a wide range of commercial music genres—including pop, rock, R&B, jazz, country, musical theatre, and related styles.

Because instructors from all areas of the department play a central role in weekly recitals and performance activities that function as a shared focal point of the Commercial Music program, the successful candidate should be comfortable working closely with students and faculty in performance-based environments, including on-campus and off-campus events.

The candidate may also teach private lessons in an applied area, and is expected to participate in program meetings, committee work, juries, and faculty performances as part of the Commercial Music faculty. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with students across a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and ability levels, including military veterans and other non-traditional students.

The candidate should be highly organized and comfortable working on Mac-based systems and with contemporary music technology, including digital audio workstations, live sound consoles, microphones, MIDI, and related hardware and software. Dallas College is also an Avid Learning Partner, so fluency with Avid Pro Tools is required and previous Pro Tools teaching experience is a plus. Familiarity with eCampus and learning management systems is expected.

Successful candidates will also be active performers and/or audio professionals with a strong local, regional, national, or international profile, and who are comfortable collaborating musically with other Commercial Music faculty and performing in faculty recitals.
