Responsibilities

As an Art Specialist at Central Market, you’ll bring the Central Market brand experience to life in our stores. Each store reflects a unique expression of our brand that builds a stage to tell our product stories. Think of yourself as a theater set designer who transforms the grocery trip into a food adventure where customers discover the best of every department.

Artwork may include hand crafted lettering, sign and mural painting, event production and installation, 3D retail display design and custom illustration.

What is the work?

Design & Development / Production

  • Creates hand crafted, eye-catching artwork and displays to tell product stories that sell product through signs, banners, chalkboards, foam art, and sculptures
  • Serves as Central Market Brand Ambassador in own Store, ensuring all art and event experiences enhance and align with the Store's unique look and Division-provided event concepts
  • Researches product information to tell compelling stories and confirm accuracy; researches themes, cultures, and products for signature events to ensure authenticity
  • Creates chalkboard art in key departments that helps tell product stories, share timely deals, and sell product
  • Creates materials (banners, menus, handouts, posters, badge flappers, internal communication, etc.)
  • Conceptualizes / creates camera-ready painted signs, foam art, and sculptures in various sizes and mediums to promote and help merchandise products
  • Creates larger scale art pieces that include materials like foam board, paper mache, plaster, cardboard, wood, fabric, and found materials
  • Completes superficial sculpture, 3D layering, and faux techniques (wood, marble, stone, paper, metal, etc.)
  • Manages weekly sale sign production, including some attribute signs pricing tags
  • Maintains the studio, including weekly cleaning duties, storage of signs and props, and maintenance of tools like computer, printer, and laminator
  • Researches / stays current on different styles, techniques
  • Decorates for in-store Partner celebrations and events

What is your background?

  • 1+ years of experience in commercial art, freelance, or studio work

Do you have what it takes to be a fit as a Central Market Art Specialist?

  • Technical knowledge of basic construction and tools like hammers, screw drivers, routers, jigsaws, and drills
  • Strong understanding / comfort level with acrylic- and latex-based paints and paint brush control
  • Understanding of composition, color theory, value (light and shadow), and perspective
  • Understanding of appropriate uses of glue, adhesives, chemicals, stains, treatments, and solvents
  • Familiarity with MS Office
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, on a Mac
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Strong hand lettering skills and painting skills
  • Drafting and drawing skills
  • Ability to select / use finishes (color, form, scale, texture) that are aesthetically pleasing
  • Ability to copywrite or source copy, where needed
  • Ability to complete projects in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to business needs; attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a highly cross-functional, dynamic, and collaborative team environment
