Position Summary:
Hillwood Construction Services (HCS) is seeking a detail‑oriented and highly motivated Estimator to join our growing team in Dallas, Texas
. This role will play a critical part in the preconstruction process, supporting budgeting, quantity takeoffs, bid solicitations, and subcontractor coordination for commercial and industrial construction projects.
The Estimator will work closely with the Preconstruction Manager and project teams, assisting with cost estimation, bid evaluations, and overall project planning. This position is ideal for a professional with a strong analytical mindset and a passion for construction who is looking to develop their skills and grow within a high‑performing team.
Responsibilities- Prepare quantity takeoffs, estimates, and coordinate bid solicitations/tabulations.
- Perform a detailed review of the bid documents for compliance with company standards, client standards, constructability and budget compliance.
- Prepare initial subcontractor bid list and review with Preconstruction and Operations.
- Solicit subcontractor pricing as necessary for both budgets and hard bid projects.
- Maintain and track subcontractor responses to bid solicitations and answer questions as necessary.
- Receive and review subcontractor bids. Prepare and review with Manager a bid day analysis that compares the project budget to bids received.
- Work with Manager to collect and prepare all relevant preconstruction data in a logical format for review and turnover to the Operations Team.
- Maintain subcontractor and historical job cost databases.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities along with an open and willing attitude and eagerness to learn.
- Excellent time management capabilities.
- Outstanding communication skills—verbal and written. Establish collaborative relationships with internal as well as external stakeholders.
- Excellent technical skills. Proficient in reading, understanding, and applying blueprints and job specifications.
- Excellent computer and technology skills.
- Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience, ideally gained within a commercial general contractor in an estimator, project engineer, or other related position.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Building Construction Science, Construction Management, Construction Technology, or related area.
- Prolonged periods sitting/standing at construction sites.
