Brief Description
The Assistant Superintendent supports day-to-day field execution under the direction of the Superintendent. This role coordinates trade partners, supports quality and safety efforts, and helps maintain the schedule, logistics, and cleanliness of the jobsite. They are expected to track progress, reinforce standards, and resolve minor issues in real time – all while learning how to manage larger scopes of work. This is a developmental role for field leaders ready to take their next step in oversight, coordination, and field communication.
EssentialJob Functions
- Orient new site personnel to the company and project.
- Help the Superintendent manage project equipment, coordinate, schedule and manage all subcontractors and vendors, and expedite vendors and subcontractors on a daily and weekly basis.
- Help maintain accurate timekeeping and cost records.
- Supervise self‑perform work and develop special construction methods for job efficiency.
- Help the Superintendent comply with all jobsite reporting requirements, including daily reports, field purchase orders, weekly unit reports, weekly updates to the “two‑week look‑ahead” and monthly updates to the construction schedule.
- Familiarize yourself with shop drawings and submittals and help project managers comply with the submittal schedule, contract documents and company reporting requirements.
- Attend required job site meetings.
- Maintain safety standards – safety planning is to be included in all pre‑job planning and considered foremost in the daily operations.
- Participate in close out the project in compliance with the contract documents.
- Maintain quality consistent with the company standards by following proven processes, encouraging continuous improvement, and empowering the team through accountability.
- Constructability knowledge – Structural & Building Envelope.
- Update hard copy of schedule and drive weekly updates with the team (P6).
- Assist with updating site logistics plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This role requires regular physical activity, including walking, standing for extended periods of time, and working in various outdoor conditions as part of daily field operations. Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather, if needed. May include climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching. Occasional office work will be required.
- Occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs / 22.7 kg) can be expected, though exertion of up to 10 lbs of force is more common.
- Strong manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment (e.g., computers, mobile devices, copiers).
Skills and Qualifications
- B.A. or B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent experience.
- Three or more years of construction experience.
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
