Job Summary

The Equal Opportunity (EO) Specialist will conduct investigations of complaints of discrimination and harassment pursuant to federal, state, and local EEO laws and UT Southwestern Medical Center"s Equal Opportunity Policies. This role coordinates requests for disability-related accommodations for faculty and staff, maintains compliance reporting, and tracks and facilitates training programs. Key relationships include serving as a liaison and internal consultant to employees and management on accommodation and equal opportunity requests, supporting the function with external agencies on complaint handling matters, and collaborating with Employee Relations and Compliance on overlapping investigative issues.

Juris Doctorate (J.D.) is preferred. Experience with investigations or ADA accommodations is preferred. This position will be onsite for the first few months and then transition to a hybrid schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

Education & Experience

  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college
  • Experience:

    2 years of HR/legal/compliance experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Preferred

  • Education:

    Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    SHRM-CP or equivalent

Job Duties

  • Use independent judgment in analyzing ADA accommodation requests to determine eligibility for accommodation in accordance with University policy and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); manage the request for accommodations, provide procedural information, collaborate with managers in the interactive process, and communicate accommodation decisions to requestors and management.
  • Conduct internal investigations of discrimination and harassment complaints, including analyzing complaints, developing investigative plans, conducting fact-finding interviews, conducting related research, preparing related correspondence, submitting confidential reports, and preparing corporate position statements outlining investigative findings. Provide information to complainants regarding UT Southwestern’s Equal Opportunity policies and internal complaint procedures.
  • Perform case-management and maintain filing and database records for all incoming reports and concerns.
  • Analyze EO and non-EO related complaints, develop investigative plans, conduct fact-finding, review documents, conduct related research, prepare related correspondence, and submit confidential reports containing investigative findings.
  • Assist with the coordination and completion of any reports mandated by external regulatory entities.
  • Assist in the analysis and/or preparation of reports indicating complaint trends based on data collected.
  • Assist in the preparation, dissemination and implementation of rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines related to the review of internal complaints of alleged discrimination.
