Position SummaryThe Accounting Intern supports the Finance & Accounting team by assisting with internal controls documentation, standardizing reconciliation processes, preparing routine journal entries, and supporting management reporting needs. This role also includes the opportunity to develop and strengthen intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills through hands‑on work with financial data, templates, and reporting tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in documenting internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Support the standardization of account reconciliation formats, templates, and workflows.
- Maintain organized tracking log for department reconciliations, control evidence, and outstanding items.
- Review supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare routine journal entries based on established support and predefined processes.
- Ensure entries comply with company policies and proper accounting treatment.
- Assist with month‑end close tasks, including compiling support and validating financial data.
- Prepare draft schedules, exhibits, and analysis for management review.
- Assist with ad‑hoc reporting requests, including data pulls, variance explanations, and formatting.
- Support the Controller with project‑based tasks related to improving visibility into financial results.
- Work with financial data using Excel functions, formulas, pivot tables, and data validation.
- Assist in improving and standardizing Excel‑based templates and schedules.
- Learn and apply advanced Excel tools such as conditional formatting, lookups, and basic automation.
- Assist in maintaining organized accounting records and documentation repositories.
- Help with data cleanup, reformatting, and process standardization efforts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Willingness to learn and improve Excel skills.
- Organizational skills, including maintaining clear records.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate.
- Professionalism and confidentiality with sensitive information.
