Senior Property Accountant

Dallas, TX – hybrid, 2-3 days onsite

One of Vaco’s real estate investment clients is looking to onboard a Senior Accountant due to continued growth of the organization. The company has a diverse portfolio of commercial and multifamily assets over $5B in value.

The Property Accountant will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting of an assigned portfolio of properties. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, the ability to manage multiple entities, and a proactive mindset in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Compensation: $90-95K + bonus

Day-to-day
  • Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of properties, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, and intercompany transactions
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Analyze financial results and investigate variances
  • Prepare monthly property financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Deliver timely and accurate reporting packages to internal stakeholders and asset management teams
  • Assist with budget vs. actual analysis and forecasting support
  • Record and reconcile rental income, CAM recoveries, and tenant billings
  • Ensure accurate lease abstraction and compliance with lease terms
  • Support revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP
  • Track capital expenditures, tenant improvements, and construction-in-progress
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation calculations
  • Support external audits, lender reporting, and tax preparation processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
  • Assist with internal controls and process improvements
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting efficiency
  • Participate in system implementations or enhancements as the company scales
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property accounting
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with property management/accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, App Folio) preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
