Controller, Accounting, Accounting Manager

Overview

We re hiring a Controller / Senior Construction Accountant with deep, hands-on experience in commercial construction accounting. This role is not theoretical or purely supervisory—you must be highly fluent in day-to-day construction accounting workflows, billing mechanics, and cash flow management tied to active projects.

This position owns the financial backbone of construction operations: pay apps, AIA billing, WIP, retainage, collections, and lien compliance. You ll work closely with project managers, executives, and external partners to ensure accurate reporting, timely billing, and predictable cash flow.

• Prepare, submit, and manage monthly pay applications, including AIA billing and supporting schedules
• Oversee WIP reporting, job cost tracking, and margin analysis across multiple active projects
• Manage retainage tracking, closeouts, and final billings through project completion
• Handle construction AP, including vendor invoices, lien waivers, and compliance documentation
• Manage construction AR and collections, coordinating with owners, GCs, and subs to resolve billing issues
• Administer lien, release, and notice processes to protect company interests
• Maintain accurate financial records aligned with GAAP and construction accounting best practices
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Partner with leadership to provide clear financial insights on project performance and cash flow

• 7+ years of commercial construction accounting experience (required)
• Extensive hands-on experience with:
• Pay applications and AIA billing
• WIP schedules and job cost accounting
• Retainage, closeouts, and construction collections
• Construction AP and lien / release processes
• Strong understanding of construction financial workflows from pre-billing through closeout
• Experience using construction accounting systems and platforms similar to Levelset, Procore, and Buildertrend
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations and leadership

• 7+ years of commercial construction accounting experience (required)
