Job Title: Project Accounting Manager
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: VP of Finance & Accounting
Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly organized and experienced Project Accounting Manager to lead the financial oversight of our construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring accurate billing, timely accounts payable processing, and compliance with lien waiver requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting and a proactive approach to cross‑functional collaboration, particularly with the purchasing department.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of project accounting, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Manage the full billing cycle, including preparation and submission of AIA billings and progress billings.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of lien waivers in compliance with project and legal requirements.
- Monitor and track accounts payable, ensuring vendor invoices are properly coded, approved, and entered into the accounting system.
- Collaborate closely with the purchasing department to ensure all purchase orders and invoices are accurately recorded and reconciled in the accounting software.
- Maintain up-to-date records of project costs and ensure alignment with budget and contract terms.
- Prepare monthly project financial statements, variance analyses, and cash flow reports.
- Support external audits and provide necessary documentation and schedules.
- Develop and maintain project accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Train and mentor accounting staff on project‑related financial processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction accounting, with a strong understanding of project life cycles and cost management.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of AIA billing, lien waiver processes, and job costing.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel functions.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements related to subcontractor payments and lien releases.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
