Lead Accountant - Terminals Acct

Sunoco LP is a leading energy infrastructure and fuel distribution master limited partnership operating across 47 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, Europe, and Mexico. The partnership’s midstream operations include an extensive network of approximately 9,500 miles of pipeline and over 100 terminals, complementing our fuel distribution operations that serve about 10,000 convenience stores, independent dealers, commercial customers, and distributors.

Job Summary

The Lead Terminal Revenue Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations and revenue reporting of Sunoco LP terminal facilities. This role involves ensuring accurate revenue recognition, compliance with accounting standards, and providing detailed financial analysis to support decision-making processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Revenue Recognition:
    Ensure timely and accurate recognition of revenue from terminal operations.
  • Monitor contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with revenue recognition policies.
  • Prepare and review journal entries related to revenue transactions.
  • Financial Reporting:
    Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements related to terminal revenue.
  • Assist in the preparation of management reports and presentations.
  • Ensure all financial reports are in compliance with GAAP.
  • Reconciliation and Analysis:
    Perform regular reconciliation of revenue accounts and analyze revenue trends and variances to provide insights.
  • Collaborate with operations and finance teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Audit and Compliance:
    Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting revenue recognition.
  • Process Improvement:
    Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of revenue accounting processes and procedures.
  • Oversight:
    Review the work of revenue accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance, provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, and coordinate the workload of the revenue accounting team to meet deadlines.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Required Experience Is Commensurate With The Selected Job Level
  • Accountant/Analyst level:
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 2–5 years of relevant job‑related experience.
  • Senior Accountant/Analyst level:
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 5–8 years of relevant job‑related experience.
  • Lead Accountant/Analyst level:
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 8+ years of relevant job‑related experience.
Working Conditions
  • Usually normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
