Job Summary:
The Transportation Field Coordinator is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to ensure all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the school Director of Transportation, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities required of their roles. They must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

Primary Function: Ability to perform a wide variety of clerical and secretarial duties; serve as a liaison between administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the public; operate office equipment including a computer and assigned software; supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel; demonstrate good decision‑making and problem‑solving skills; exhibit excellent written and verbal communication; and possess strong organizational and leadership capabilities.

Physical Demands:

Office environment; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; constant interruptions; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of materials; sitting for extended periods of time; bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to file materials.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED;
    Associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of bus driving experience.
  • Valid CDL license with “S” and “P” endorsements required; must successfully pass the State Bus Driver Annual Physical Exam.
  • Board of Education and Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise school bus operators and operations of designated bus routes in the district.
  • Work effectively with central office departments, school administration, teachers, drivers, students, and parents.
  • Active participant in professional learning regarding current laws, regulations, and processes related to student transportation.
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Directors with all aspects of the Transportation Department.
  • Provide professional learning in a timely manner to Transportation Department employees and conduct individual meetings with drivers to discuss procedures.
  • Initiate and receive telephone calls from schools, parents, and community members.
  • Assist with routing procedures, including realignment, adjustment, and continuous maintenance activities.
  • Inspect road conditions on bus routes and specific bus stops regularly; provide recommendations to Assistant Director/Director.
  • Monitor buses during both morning and afternoon routes.
  • Conduct investigations into accidents involving district vehicles; provide written accident reports with recommendations.
  • Travel regularly to assigned schools to support school administrators with student bus discipline and/or driver issues.
  • Communicate in a timely manner with the Director/Assistant Directors regarding irregular situations within the department.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the school bus RIDE-EO concept and support its use as an instructional tool.
  • Conduct regular and systematic inspections of department vehicles and provide results to the Director/Assistant Directors promptly.
  • Actively engage with students and drivers regarding school bus safety processes and procedures.
  • Serve as a bus driver as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
