The Kitchen Equipment Technician is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the Director of Maintenance, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Moreover, they must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Primary Function: Inspect assigned facilities and equipment for safe and efficient operation. Must be able to troubleshoot and make total repairs on select equipment.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Lift, carry, push & pull 50+ lbs. on frequent basis.
  • Regular exposure to fumes, dust, and odors
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, feel, talk, hear, crawl, and to read a variety of printed and coded materials
  • Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Ability to work indoors and outdoors during all types of weather including hot, cold, rainy, humid, and dry conditions. Work extended periods in temperatures ranging from extremely hot to sub-zero.
  • Handle chemicals including but not limited to industrial refrigerant and caustic cleaning in solution, aerosol, and powder forms.
  • Available for emergency response 24 hrs./day, 7 days/week.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • EPA Refrigeration certification. On-going training/professional standards requirements
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration, and 3-phase electric trades
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, have dependable transportation, and have a good driving record

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions
  • Inspect assigned facilities and equipment for safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform assigned tasks (preventive and/or corrective) necessary to maintain all kitchen equipment in peak operating condition.
  • Communicate problems/concerns with equipment to appropriate supervisor.
  • Make recommendations which will improve job performance and/or equipment reliability as appropriate.
  • Effectively prioritize and accomplish workload.
  • Receive large kitchen equipment in schools and ensure proper installation meeting all federal, state, and local codes.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment used in performance of job responsibilities; maintain clean worksite(s).
  • Contribute to development of equipment specifications and budget.
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely manner, obtaining proper signatures from the issuing administrator.
  • Estimate time, material and supply needs to complete assigned jobs. Assist in ordering materials.
  • Maintain equipment service and inventory records.
  • Immediately report safety hazards which affect the welfare of students and district employees.
  • Meets USDA's Professional Standards training requirements. Participates in and attends all assigned in-service/training programs annually.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
