Expressive Arts Teacher (Art/Drama/Music)
Main Grade £34,938 - £52,614, Permanent, Full Time - 35 hours per week.
Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 31 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 4 stand‑alone nursery schools. The special school, Saltersgate, supports over 100 children and young people aged 5 to 18 with a range of significant, complex and multiple additional support needs. Schools range from 50 to over 1,600 pupils, with diverse urban and rural catchments. Several new builds are planned, and 15 primary and 2 secondary schools were built within the past 10 years.
Responsibilities• Deliver the Expressive Arts curriculum, primarily to secondary‑aged children, and facilitate national qualification presentations.
• Lead planning for school shows and whole‑school Expressive Arts activities.
• Advocate for students' wellbeing and educational progress through creative arts.
- Pre‑employment checks: medical screening, two written references (one recent/current), verification of original qualifications, eligibility to work in the UK, registration with the General Teaching Council and a satisfactory PVG check.
- Fully registered with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) for permanent posts.
- Compliance with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 – no bar from working with children.
- PVG Scheme membership:
Full membership (£59) or Record Update (£18) with salary deduction over the appropriate pay periods. - Disclosures required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 – unspent convictions must be disclosed.
- Interactions with Disclosure Scotland regarding PVG certificates and access management.
