Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Part‑time Front Desk/Writing Consultant on the Oconee campus. This position will tutor all levels of composition courses offered by the University, serve as the lead service provider at the Tutoring Center front desk, and assist students and faculty with all services provided by the Tutoring Center.

Responsibilities
  • Read student essays and make suggestions for improvement, explain instructor feedback; assist with reference pages, cover letters, and resumes.
  • Check in/out, maintain, and barcode reserve materials, such as books and calculators for students.
  • Assist students with calculator use and accounting software associated with accounting and business courses.
  • Monitor activities in all open‑access computing areas and study rooms. Monitor tutoring lab log‑in information.
  • Assist in compiling end‑of‑semester statistical reports and data needed for the Annual Report. Maintain supplies, make appropriate signage, update orientation materials, and promote Tutoring Services during new student orientation and other events.
  • Keep computing skills, particularly Microsoft Office suite, current. Assist students with password and related computer use issues. Maintain printers/copiers for Tutoring Center.
  • Compile, update, and post tutors’ schedules, including schedule changes as they occur and maintain website information.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities and perform other duties as requested by the Director, Assistant Director, or Tutoring Lab Coordinator of Tutoring Services.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication and computing skills.
  • Must possess a strong commitment to public service.
  • Must possess an attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information to, respond to questions from, and deal tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of database management, word‑processing and the creation and maintenance of spreadsheets.
  • Ability to use the Internet and electronic mail system.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One year of tutoring and/or teaching experience required.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft software.

Minimum Starting Salary: $18.34 per hour
