Overview
The primary function of this position is to instruct swimming and water safety classes at the Aquatics facility for patrons of all ages.
Open to:
Dahlgren, VA. This is a permanent, non-remote, 0-40 hour per week position with no benefits described. Salary: $18 to $22.19 per hour. Appointments may be filled from 01/20/2026 to 02/04/2026.
Instructs various levels of swimming including strokes (e.g., front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly). Teaches students from infant through adult ages. Instructs basic diving, safety, and survival skills. Works with lifeguards to ensure safety during lessons. Enforces pool safety standards and facility rules. Plans and organizes instruction methods and goals aligned with the Aquatics Program Manager and certifying organizations.
Directs activities of students to provide high-quality instruction. Develops swim programs based on student ability and promotes progression. Provides feedback to parents/guardians. Conducts equipment orientations as needed. Inspects equipment for environmental health standards and reports deficiencies. Administers aquatic assessment testing and certification per DoD, DON, and CNIC policy. Maintains records and submits documentation to the Aquatics Program Manager and the American Red Cross.
Collaborates with the Program Manager to upgrade teaching skills. Prepares accident/incident reports for emergencies and notifies management. Works with hazardous materials. Verifies patron identification. Assists in developing special programs and maintains a clean, safe lesson environment. Answers inquiries about facility hours and events. Completes Daily Activity Reports and handles payments when applicable.
- MUST submit ALL of the following current, active certifications:
Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Certification, CPR for professional Rescuers, First Aid (including AED), and Bloodborne Pathogens. - Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer for salary payments.

-compliant to access CNIC installations for non-affiliated individuals.
MUST SUBMIT ALL FIVE (5) CURRENT, VALID CERTIFICATIONS WITH RESUME.

- Lifeguard Certification
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Providers
- First Aid including AED
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Knowledge of instructional methods and goals.
- Knowledge of DoD, DON, CNIC aquatic assessment policies.
- Knowledge of basic water safety equipment for various age groups.
- Knowledge of basic first aid, AED, and BBP procedures.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures and ability to compute charges and make reports.
- Ability to complete a 300-yard swim in under 10 minutes.
- Ability to assess/instruct swimming skills across age ranges; plan age-appropriate instruction.
- Ability to manage/rescue individuals in water; enforce safety regulations.
- Effective communication, both oral and written.
Must be able to work varied schedules including holidays, weekends, and evenings. Must work with hazardous materials (e.g., pool chemicals).
Additional informationSalary is dependent on experience and/or education. Some positions have special requirements. Probation may apply. Direct Deposit is required within 30 days.
