Application Timeline
Substitute applications will be accepted beginning March 1, 2026, with screening through April 4, 2026. The earliest possible start date for substitute work will be after April 8, 2026.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Flexible and able to adjust daily routine.
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate a professional appearance and attitude.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Fluency in speaking, reading, and understanding the English language is required.
- Applicants must also meet one of the following criteria:
- Associate's degree or 48 college credit hours from an accredited college or university. (If you have a foreign transcript, it must be evaluated by a TEA-approved credential evaluation agency.)
- Earn a minimum score of 70 on both sections of the District’s Paraprofessional Proficiency Test. The test must be completed within two (2) days of submitting your application.
To register for the CFISD Paraprofessional Proficiency Test, please use the link below to complete the registration form so that a testing account may be created on your behalf. You will be required to provide your first name, last name, and email address. This registration process only needs to be completed once. Please ensure you use the same email address listed on your CFISD application.
Use of a different email address will invalidate your test results. Once your testing account has been established, you will receive separate instructions for accessing the assessment.

- Completion of the required RIVS Virtual Interview within two (2) calendar days of application submission.
SUBSTITUTE PARAPROFESSIONAL RIVS INTERVIEW
The RIVS Virtual Interview must be completed within two (2) calendar days of submitting your application. Failure to complete the required interview within the designated timeframe will result in the deactivation of your application and removal from further consideration.

Terms Of EmploymentSubstitutes are employed on an at-will basis and are not considered contractual employees.
FeesThere is a fingerprinting fee (approximately $50.00) associated with this application process.
Salary$85.00 - $95.00/day
Essential Functions- Responsible for implementing the District's instructional program and educational philosophy in the subject area or grade level designated, in accordance with district policies and procedures on a day-to-day basis.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
Role Description
Substitute Para Educators/Paraprofessionals assist the teacher in the classroom or handle clerical duties to include answering phones or receptionist duties, workroom copying/stapling/sorting, etc.
Working ConditionsMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
