Monday - Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (some flexibility for evenings and weekends may be required)
Under the direction of the Vice President, Student Services, this position is responsible for the administration of the departments, programs and services of the Counseling and Student Development Division; the leadership, supervision and evaluation of assigned personnel; matriculation; participation in outreach services; and serving as a liaison for the College.
Job Description- Administer and direct comprehensive campus counseling services including educational, career and personal counseling, and student development efforts.
- Provide leadership in the administration, organization and development of college counseling services and related student programs such as Articulation, Matriculation, Assessment Center, Career and Life Planning, Puente, TAP, Cadena Cultural and Transfer Center, CalWORKs, Workforce Center, International Students Center, STEM, and/or High School Outreach.
- Manage the assessment, orientation, counseling and follow‑up components of the College’s Matriculation Plan.
- Facilitate the planning, development and implementation of new programs and procedures to improve counseling services. Prepare year‑end reports and collaborate in program reviews.
- Provide leadership for development and implementation of student learning outcomes.
- Research, prepare, submit and manage all budgets in the area of responsibility, including categorical funds and grant applications.
- Administer and direct student discipline in collaboration with academic deans and Campus Safety (Cypress only).
- Maintain current knowledge of district, State and Federal regulations concerning program funds; implement procedural changes to ensure compliance.
- Coordinate publications related to counseling and student development services; prepare relevant portions of the college catalog and schedule of classes.
- Maintain communication with college and district administrators, faculty and staff to resolve conflicts and coordinate services.
- Coordinate the integration of culturally inclusive counseling services with instruction.
- Maintain current knowledge of counseling and teaching theories, methods and techniques.
- Provide overall leadership in developing, implementing and adhering to “Best Practices” for all programs within the Division.
- Facilitate staff development programs and activities for counseling faculty and staff.
- Develop and assign counseling, teaching and work schedules in collaboration with managers, faculty and staff; coordinate day and evening counseling services and classes.
- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental programs to provide efficient counseling, matriculation and student development services.
- Lead the division in strategic planning, budget, curriculum and related matters.
- Foster a collaborative work environment with shared participation among managers, faculty, classified staff and students.
- Implement new technologies into programs and services.
- Supervise and evaluate assigned managers, faculty and classified staff.
- Participate in the selection of managers, faculty and staff in accordance with district policies and legal requirements; recommend qualified candidates.
- Coordinate counseling liaison activities within the college and with feeder schools.
- Facilitate the development of counseling programs and services designed to enroll and retain culturally and socioeconomically diverse student populations.
- Participate in enrollment management and oversee articulation efforts with other colleges through the Articulation Officer and Transfer Center.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds.
- Lead district/college efforts to increase faculty and staff diversity, address student achievement gaps and create inclusive educational environments.
