Responsibilities
  • Provide support in the Blood Sciences department of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board as a Higher Healthcare Support Worker in the Biochemistry team.
  • Work in a modern Biochemistry laboratory with new automation commissioned in July 2021 at the Grange University Hospital, and be based in the Biochemistry Department with duties in other areas of the department as required.
  • Undertake a wide variety of tasks related to testing of patient samples, including registration of patient and test details on computer systems, sorting and labeling of patient samples and request forms, and basic procedures in the testing process.
  • Operate and maintain analysers, manage stock control and reagent management; participate in sample preparation and related activities.
  • Receive full training for duties; computer/typing qualifications are an advantage, as is an enthusiastic approach and any relevant experience.

The core hours for this section are 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate may be required to rotate to other sites within the Health Board; the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny. The post is based primarily at the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran.

Qualifications and experience
  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable;
    Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
  • Previous experience in an NHS laboratory is advantageous.
  • Relevant computer/typing qualifications are advantageous.
