GUH is the centre for specialist and critical care services, which opened in November 2020.

The Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH), Nevill Hall Hospital (NHH) and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (YYF) are collectively known as enhanced local general hospitals (eLGHs).
