Senior Content Production Specialist​/Engineer, iWork

Summary

The Senior Content Production Specialist is a key team player in ensuring new design intentions of Apple’s iWork products. In this role, you will provide technical production expertise combined with an extraordinary sense of design and technical acumen to maintain the high-level design and quality standards that are the hallmark of Apple. We’re looking for an experienced Production Specialist/Engineer who is passionate about technical production and workflow processes.

You’ll work with designers and engineers to ensure a successful product for both iWork and its users.

You will be leading the process of translating designs into technical products — templates and themes — across all three iWork apps. This position requires you to have impeccable production skills — layout, typography, color — and have a keen eye for inconsistencies. You will also have a background in management of production teams, and expertise in complex workflows. As you work through file creation, you will need to keep in mind how the end user will experience the template and the app on both macOS and iOS, as well as any new app features being introduced.

An organized individual, with accurately structured files, is essential to the workflow. The position requires deliverables to be provided under tight deadlines — exceptional attention to detail is a requirement, as well as an ability to problem solve, easily deal with tedious tasks, mediate, and cope with rapid change. Above all, the role requires a dedicated individual who understands Apple’s high standards and design aesthetic.

• Management and hands‑on production and workflow development
• Initial collaboration with Content Design to produce new design templates
• iWork Content Production (templates):
  • Building new templates (very technical process re: accuracy, following established methods for successful deliverables, testing by importing)
  • Audits of various template features, functions, imagery, placeholder text
  • Pressure test new template designs, expose discrepancies in design goals vs production realities, work with ENG to add new features to accomplish those goals when possible
  • AX testing of new templates, sample docs
  • Internal QA: cross‑checking new content to guarantee our work moves into the builds without creating bugs
• New Feature Implementation:
  • Work closely with ENG, Design+HI as new features are developed
  • Flexibility in content creation including the new features occurring in parallel with feature development – informing ENG re: content creation/import processes & dependencies
• Git Hub:
  • Checking out repos, checking in changes to content files and import‑generated files
  • Understanding how repos behave, tracking file changes for bug investigations, fixing conflicts
  • Working in Source Tree and/or Terminal for Git Hub management
  • Responsiveness and ability to deploy updated ENG requirements including creating Pull Requests for multiple repo check‑ins; managing the impact on workflow
  • Close partnership with ENG as new processes are required, and are tested and tweaked in collaboration
• Radar:
  • Bug writing/investigating/fixing is complex and requires a deep understanding of our apps functionality and our templates intent
  • Need a clear understanding of how to investigate our apps and content to diagnose issues; QA finds and communicate findings and proposed fix both efficiently and effectively
  • Close collaboration with Design re: bug fixes requirement vs. template design/layout adjustments
• Native Tools:
  • Communicate with ENG re: need for updates to the Ginger Native Tools (GNT) app in response to bug fixes or feature additions or process enhancements
  • Proactively define and test Native Tool improvements working with our Content ENG
  • Assist in development of internal tools and workflows to support content development
• Localization:
  • Awareness of LOC layout impacts in new template designs
  • Collaboratively fix LOC bugs, ensuring design integrity and functionality for templates in other regions

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years experience in production management and production for software
