Wireless Systems Validation Engineer – GNSS
Cupertino, California, United States Hardware
At Apple, we work every single day to craft products that enrich people’s lives. Do you love working on challenges that no one has solved yet? Do you like changing the game? As a member of our dynamic group, you will have the unique and rewarding opportunity to shape upcoming products that will delight and inspire millions of Apple’s customers every day.
Apple’s RF System Engineering team is looking for a passionate, self‑motivated individual to work on integration of GNSS technologies into Apple’s wireless products.
You will validate and characterize wireless system performance across various wireless technologies to ensure compliance with industry standards and use case requirements. You will debug and perform failure analysis of issues in collaboration with cross‑functional engineering teams and drive issues to resolution. You will also be responsible for completing certification testing:
- Executing validation and characterization test plans to meet industry and performance requirements.
- Bringing up devices under test (DUT) and test setups to ensure validation readiness.
- Defining test requirements and designing and implementing test systems.
- Tracking validation status, analyzing results, and communicating issues and insights from data to cross‑functional forums.
- Performing failure analysis to understand low margins or failures using experimental software/firmware and mock‑up hardware.
- Collaborating with test equipment vendors, technology suppliers, and cross‑functional teams to optimize radio performance of the device.
- Supporting manufacturing test processes and certification of Apple products.
- Define GNSS compliance and validation requirements, DVT/SVT coverage plans, and interface with chipset vendors to review test reports. Ensure DVT/SVT open issues are resolved prior to transitioning to product builds.
- Define product validation test plans, bring up devices under test (DUT), complete validation, and independently root‑cause technical issues for assigned products.
- Debug technical issues independently, propose fixes, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate solutions.
- Provide insights and trade‑off analyses for GNSS fixes. Optimize GNSS system performance using design knobs to ensure industry compliance and maximize user experience.
- Support GNSS certification of Apple products across conformance requirements (3
GPP and carrier requirements) and compliance standards (ETSI and worldwide regulatory requirements). - Support GNSS testing at third‑party labs and manufacturing sites to gather data across parts and enable rapid feedback to the design team.
- Participate in feasibility studies to evaluate and validate future product designs or features.
- Bachelor's Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Practical knowledge in GNSS RF validation.
- Experience with using RF lab test equipment.
- Master’s Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Practical knowledge of receiver architecture and RF front‑end characteristics that impact GNSS system‑level RF parameters.
- Practical knowledge of GNSS standards, including 3
GPP and carrier performance requirements, compliance requirements, and associated test methodologies. - Hands‑on experience with bench‑level conducted GNSS testing and debugging at the module, reference board, or system level.
- Hands‑on experience with RF equipment such as network analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and cellular call boxes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Python to help define new requirements and debug test automation.
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
