The Haptic Engineering team develops innovative haptic solutions and technologies central to Apple's products, including iPhone and Apple Watch. We enable the world's best user experiences through engineering precision, creativity, and innovation. We're looking for an experienced Hardware Design Engineer to architect, design, develop, and validate the next-generation haptic technologies—from concept through mass production—in a highly collaborative, hands‑on environment.
DescriptionYou will drive the architecture, design, development, and validation of haptic subsystems for Apple products, working with various actuation and sensing technologies. This role spans the full product lifecycle, from early proof‑of‑concept investigations through system integration and mass production support.
Responsibilities- Architect and design haptics subsystems, including requirements definition, component selection, and schematics for boards and flexible circuit assemblies
- Validate and characterize module performance, signal integrity, and power integrity
- Define test and calibration requirements
- Lead failure analysis at module and system levels
- Evaluate new sensing and actuator technologies through proof‑of‑concept investigations
- Collaborate and drive alignment with cross‑functional partners including Firmware, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Human Interface, Software and Operations
- Contribute to IP generation
- BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
- Strong background in circuit design, signal processing, and electromagnetism
- Experience with sensors and associated signal conditioning and processing chains
- Proficiency in MATLAB, SPICE, Simulink, or similar simulation and modeling tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in PCB design and IC validation/bring‑up
- Experience with electromagnetic or piezoelectric actuators
- Familiarity with Python or C
- Familiarity with modeling electro‑mechanical systems
- Background in physics or mechanical engineering fundamentals
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
