Systems Engineer, Electronics Engineer
Technical Sales Associate at Optofidelity Job Overview
Opto Fidelity is seeking a motivated, hands-on Field Optical Engineer to join our internal team in Cupertino, CA, supporting AR/VR/MR component- and system-level testers. This role is ideal for early-career professionals—recent Master’s or Ph.D. graduates—or candidates with 2–4 years of relevant experience. You’ll gain broad exposure to cutting-edge optical systems, work in a start-up environment with autonomy, and have significant room to grow.
You will travel to client sites to maintain, optimize, and provide feedback on our AR/VR/MR test systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence Opto Fidelity's next-generation AR/VR/MR testing solutions while advancing your career in optical engineering. As the team grows, this position is expected to evolve into an Optical Design Engineer role or Sales Engineer role.
- Perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of AR/VR/MR optical testers at client locations
- Provide guidance to clients on best practices and usage of Opto Fidelity test systems
- Collect, analyze, and document test data; communicate findings to internal and client teams
- Collaborate with internal design and engineering teams in Finland to improve systems based on field insights
- Support development of automated optical measurement systems and component-level testers
- Participate in an initial training program in Finland with senior optical engineers
- Engage in hands‑on optical alignment and lab work, contributing to prototype‑to‑production testing and system validation
- Design optical lenses and components using tools such as Zemax, Code V, or Light Tools
- BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Optics, Materials Science, or a closely related field
- Hands‑on experience in optics or optical characterization through internships, personal projects, or professional experience
- Comfortable aligning optics in the lab and working with complex optical hardware — not just simulations
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
- Willingness to travel 25–50% of the time to US client locations
- Experience with optical lens design using Zemax, Code V, or Light Tools
- Experience with Solid Works or other mechanical design tools.
- Familiarity with Linux
- Knowledge of AR/VR industry, wave guides, or color science
- Background in image quality evaluation or metrology instruments
- Exposure to prototype‑to‑production transitions, system bring‑up, or hardware validation
- 401(k) with company match or Roth options
- Medical, dental, vision, and optional life coverage
- Team events and professional development opportunities
At Opto Fidelity, you’ll be part of a fast‑growing, agile team where your ideas and expertise make an immediate impact. We operate like a startup—with autonomy, flexibility, and room to take initiative—while supporting global clients developing the future of AR/VR/MR technologies.
