Quality Improvement Engineer

Position SummaryThe Quality Improvement Engineer is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations by identifying root causes of quality issues, implementing effective corrective actions, and improving process capability. This role combines strong analytical problem-solving skills with hands-on manufacturing experience to deliver sustainable quality improvements in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead root cause analysis efforts using structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, A3, DMAIC).
- Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address internal and customer quality issues.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to improve process performance and product quality.
- Apply Six Sigma and continuous improvement tools to reduce variation, eliminate defects, and improve efficiency.
- Perform and support metrology and inspection activities, including use of hand measurement tools, CMMs, and portable measurement systems (e.g., Romer/roamer arms).
- Support new product introductions and process changes by identifying quality risks and defining control methods.
- Analyze quality data and trends, prepare reports, and communicate findings to leadership.
- Participate in audits, customer quality reviews, and supplier quality initiatives as required.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality systems and applicable industry standards.
- Hands-on manufacturing experience, preferably in welding and fabrication environments.
- 3+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.
- Formal root cause analysis and problem-solving training.
- Experience developing and implementing corrective actions with demonstrated effectiveness.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including but not limited to writing skills and ability to convey quality information across various organizational functions (operators, management, customers, vendors)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, process variation, and quality control principles.
- Independent problem solver, ability to work with limited supervision
- Works well within a cross functional team – has the ability to track project progress, accomplish tasks, and drive improvement in a peer leader role
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification (or equivalent advanced continuous improvement training).
- Advanced metrology experience, including precision hand tools, CMMs, and portable measurement systems (Romer/roamer arms).
- Experience working in metal fabrication, welding, or heavy manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949 or similar quality management systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector or Quality Engineer
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on, shop-floor focused mindset
- Ability to lead improvement initiatives and influence without authority
