We are seeking a qualified and experienced Water Hygiene & Plumbing Engineer to join our engineering team based at Merville Barracks, Colchester, CO2 7UT
. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a structured and professional environment, supporting the delivery of high-quality water hygiene and plumbing services in line with contractual KPIs and compliance standards. Reporting to the Water Technical Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring service standards set out in the Service Level Agreement are achieved, maintained, and continuously improved across the assigned operational area.
- Delivering water hygiene Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and emergency works in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Carrying out reactive plumbing maintenance as required.
- Working in full compliance with ACOP L8, HSG
274 Parts 2 & 3, HTM 04-01, BS 8558, and BS 8680. - Managing a varied workload effectively, prioritising tasks and meeting operational deadlines.
- Completing weekly flushing of infrequently used outlets.
- Conducting temperature monitoring of hot and cold-water systems.
- Undertaking microbiological and chemical water sampling.
- Performing TMV servicing (minor and full).
- Descaling and maintaining showers and spray taps.
- Conducting water storage tank inspections and compliance checks.
- Servicing filtration systems.
- Purging and maintaining expansion vessels, calorifiers, and water heaters.
- Undertaking tank cleaning and disinfection.
- Completing plumbing remediation works including leak repairs, drainage issues, and sanitary system repairs.
- Maintaining accurate records and compliance documentation.
- Supporting additional or ad-hoc services where required.
- Maintain strong client relationships.
- Provide fair supervision where required and support positive team performance.
- People Friendly, Customer service skills are essential.
- Recognised Water Hygiene qualification (City & Guilds or equivalent).
- Recognised Plumbing qualification – City & Guilds Level 2 (or equivalent).
- G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems certification.
- Proven experience in a Water Hygiene operational role.
- Experience in reactive plumbing maintenance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- High attention to detail and strong compliance focus.
- Ability to prioritise, manage workload, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Held a full UK Driving license for 2 years or more.
- Must be over 25 years of age to driver company vehicle.
- Experience working within a military environment.
- Previous experience in a senior engineering role.
- Leadership capability and team supervision experience.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an innovative approach.
