Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Staff Nurse within our Endoscopy team at University Hospital Ayr.

Hours

36 hours over 5 days.

This post is offered on a permanent basis.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

What you will do
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments including pre procedure checks and post procedure recovery monitoring.
  • Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and recognise and respond appropriately to patient deterioration.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies including decontamination and safe handling of endoscopic equipment.
  • Take responsibility for personal professional development, including mandatory training and endoscopic specific competencies.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers and colleagues.
  • Work flexibly across all areas of the Endoscopy Unit including procedure rooms and recovery area.
Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post
  • Current NMC registration
  • A genuine interest in caring for patients with gastrointestinal, biliary and respiratory disorders
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise confidently and effectively within a large multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to be flexible and reliable within the team and department
