Our client, a leading organisation in the power transmission and distribution sector, is currently seeking a dedicated Commercial Manager to join their team. This contract role involves a hybrid function combining contract/commercial management, quantity surveying, and project commercial governance for major UK infrastructure projects. The position entails NEC3/4 contract administration, cost control, and project documentation oversight for cable-laying, jointing, civils, substation works, and agricultural routing projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer NEC3/4 contracts including early warnings, compensation events, payment applications, and change control logs.
  • Interpret contract documentation and highlight key points to the project delivery team for execution planning.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal departments to clarify contractual interpretations and milestones.
  • Ensure contract documents, cost and forecast management, and change control records are audit-ready.
  • Produce cost reports, CVRs, forecasts, cash‑flow projections, and margin tracking.
  • Manage subcontractor applications, variations, final accounts, and claims negotiations.
  • Conduct project execution cost reviews vs tender budgets and provide lessons‑learned feedback for the Bid Team.
  • Ensure timely issuance of payment applications and invoices to maintain cash flow.
  • Support procurement including ordering power and fibre‑optic cables and accessories.
  • Provide monthly updates to senior management on progress, risks, and financials.
  • Attend client meetings on progress, issues, commercial matters, and technical queries.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Strong background in NEC3 & 4 contract management.
  • Experience in power transmission, distribution, civils, and substations, including cable‑laying and jointing operations.
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor and/or Commercial Manager.
  • Strong commercial, financial, and contractual acumen.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering, or equivalent (desirable).
  • Membership of RICS/CICES/ICE (beneficial).
  • Willingness to travel to sites across the UK with overnight stays where required.
  • Strong communication, report writing, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

If you are an experienced professional in commercial management within the power sector and are looking for an exciting contract opportunity, we would love to hear from you. Apply now to join our client's dynamic team and contribute to major infrastructure projects across the UK.
