The Telemetry Registered Nurse is specially trained in the detection of cardiac dysrhythmias, monitoring, and therapeutic equipment to provide specialized medical and/or surgical nursing care to patients with significant heart disease, heart failure or dysrhythmia. The nurse manages and monitors fixed rate intravenous drips, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement a plan of care for a specific group of assigned patients, and ensures coordination of care between other disciplines, physicians, and support staff.
Professional nursing duties incorporate psychosocial, psychomotor, and age‑appropriate cognitive skills to assess, plan, intervene, and advocate for the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care. By reevaluating patient responses and outcomes, the nurse assesses the effectiveness of the plan of care, readiness for discharge, and makes referrals as necessary. The RN also acts as a role model and mentor to new graduate nurses, orientees, and support staff.
