The Town of Culpeper is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join the Environmental Services Department as a Plant Maintenance Supervisor. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the Town’s water and wastewater treatment facilities through hands‑on leadership, technical expertise, and supervision of maintenance staff.
Primary functions include:- Supervising and participating in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment at water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Assigning, scheduling, directing, and inspecting the work of skilled and semi‑skilled maintenance personnel.
- Coordinating the purchasing of equipment, materials, and repair supplies necessary for continued plant operations.
- Interacting with vendors and contractors to procure equipment and services in a cost‑effective manner.
- Maintaining records and preparing reports related to budgets, timesheets, purchase orders, fuel usage, and equipment repairs.
- Calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing plant equipment.
- Coordinating contracted repair services as needed.
- Assisting with snow and ice removal and performing related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in water and wastewater treatment plant maintenance.
- Strong understanding of safety practices and hazards associated with maintenance work.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment issues.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of maintenance staff.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, and contractors.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and extensive experience in treatment plant maintenance, repair, and operation.
Special Requirements :Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
