Overview
This position is responsible for providing assistance to the Foreman in supervising field personnel and managing equipment, trucking, materials and enforcing corporate safety policies. Serves as a fill-in for all positions on the crew to ensure jobs are unaffected by employee absences. This position is for the Fredericksburg/Culpeper Region.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Foreman in Supervising, training, and coordinate activities of field workers in the absence of the Foreman.
- Direct operations, maintenance of equipment, and daily production at the direction of the Foreman.
- Make production recommendations for improved efficiencies. Institute changes as directed by the Foreman.
- Meet established quality control standards.
- Explains and demonstrates safe procedures, techniques and equipment operation to workers.
- Identify and stop any unsafe work activities.
- Measure, verify and comply with all company and governmental environmental, safety and health policies and regulations in conjunction with and through close coordination with the Safety Department.
- Maintain positive relationship with Federal and State representatives.
- Support and maintain all Company policies.
- Work in conjunction with the Foreman to ensure jobs are completed safely and timely to Superior quality standards.
- Assist crew members in all facets of paving in the field. Including shoveling, raking hot asphalt, traffic flagging, equipment operation and basic equipment maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to read and comprehend construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Ability to formulate and maintain project documentation.
- Ability to operate various types of heavy equipment, construction hand tools, machines, and vehicles. Must be able to demonstrate this knowledge through field certification.
- Ability to field engineer in certain circumstances.
- Proficiency in laying RPS material.
- Excellent math and analytical skills
- Ability to adhere to Superior policies and other safety regulations.
- A good understanding of state, local and private requirements and regulations. Including VDOT highway paving regulations.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills or the ability to learn to fulfill daily input requirements for reporting and timekeeping.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain relationships with supervisors, peers, and subordinates and have good interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs. of weight unassisted frequently throughout the course of the work shift. Must have full range of mobility in upper and lower body, and be able to pull up your own weight.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and nights as required.
- Valid Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record required. Ability to travel to jobs in Central, Northern Virginia, and the tri-state area
- Ability to read, write and speak English. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- 3 years in asphalt paving operations preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalency preferred.
