The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper, establishing authentic personalized relationships with patients and their support systems. The RN collaborates with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care that promote optimal health. The Registered Nurse utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist patients in navigating their health journey, and accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with current policies and procedures, providing and documenting care under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager.
Qualifications- Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. 4‑Year/Bachelor’s Degree preferred. - Experience:
1 year of relevant experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. - Licensure:
Current RN licensure in applicable state required. CPI certification within three months of hire required for Behavioral Health, Emergency Department, and Central Staffing and Scheduling Office (CSSO). If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired, or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board‑approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license.
Apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course. - Additional Skills/Requirements
Required:
Basic nursing skill proficiency, ability to perform basic skills on groups of patients, ability to assume charge responsibility, multitask and prioritize quickly, administer medication using the five rights, verbal and written communication, basic computer knowledge, and ability to safely care for all patient populations presenting to the department. - Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: N/A
- Patient Care
- Act with patient advocacy when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to educate patients and their support systems.
- Analyze, modify, and implement strategies to progress patients through their plan of care.
- Ensure completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and related therapies.
- Prioritize job duties according to patient needs and changing acuity levels.
- Teamwork
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with team members/internal customers to provide efficient patient treatment.
- Mentor, precept, orient, and provide feedback to develop team members.
- Resolve conflicts independently, as appropriate.
- Accept responsibility for actions and respond positively to feedback from others.
- Medical Knowledge
- Operate various equipment, including portable cardiac monitors and bedside commodes.
- Provide routine nursing care such as starting IVs, performing dressing changes, and other tasks for multiple patients in a timely manner.
- Assist in critical situations, including administering CPR.
- Administer and evaluate medication therapies, perform patient transfers, and transport patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.
- Medium to Heavy Physical Demand:
Constant standing, frequent walking, and bending/stooping. Requires proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills, attention to detail, and legible writing. - Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
