Deputy Treasurer - Accounting Technician

Responsible for performing professional accounting work in the collection of revenues and reconciliation of accounts for the County. (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.   • Reconciles County bank statements.
  • Performs accounts payable functions for the Office of the Treasurer.
  • Completes transfers, wires, ACH payments, voids/stop payments, off-cycle issuance, and other banking deposits to the banking system according to state auditor mandates, retention schedules, and sound internal control.
  • Performs end of day office balancing. Balances daily cash drawers; reconciles cash, checks, charges and receipts to edit report and updates report; reconciles credit card reports and transmits data; receives, verifies and processes transmittals of cash/checks from various County departments; verifies and processes daily state income and estimated tax vouchers/payments received and Sheriff’s fees.
  • Balances collected money with payment records in automated system.
  • Provides assistance to taxpayers and County residents who contact the Office of the Treasurer.
  • Provides backup and support service to cashiering and other sections, which may include, but is not limited to, answering phone calls, posting payments, retrieving mail.
  • Reports annually to the state for unclaimed property verifying information and recording information to be filed.
  • Responsible for electronic and paper destruction of records and recording the proper destruction coding and the retention dates.
  • Assists during annual audits.
Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience working in the accounting field. A degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related area is highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of generally acceptable financial/accounting principles and terminology.
  • General knowledge of the principles underlying the laws, ordinances and regulations governing the operations of the Treasurer's Office.
  • Ability to meet various deadlines, prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Advanced knowledge of standard word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy when dealing with citizens and handling confidential information.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret fiscal and accounting data and to prepare appropriate statements and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
  • Knowledge of customer service methods, procedures, and principles, as well as departmental procedures and policies.
Physical Demands

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as moderate. Tasks typically involve some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Requires ability to perform skilled coordinated movements, perceive and discriminate sounds, visual perception, and oral communication.

Work Environment

Essential functions are regularly performed in an office setting without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
