Major Responsibilities
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats acute, critical, and chronic patients within an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Obtains medical histories, conducts physical examinations, and determines differential diagnoses. Prescribes medication, therapy, and treatments accordingly.
  • Interprets patient data to determine management and treatment plans, performs minor surgeries and routine procedures, and consults with physicians as appropriate.
  • Adjusts patient care plans by reviewing and monitoring treatments, counseling patients on health behaviors and self‑care skills.
  • Coordinates care, managing ancillary services, pre‑operative plans, discharge planning, provider referrals, and medical devices such as insulin pumps, defibrillators, and pacemakers.
  • Prescribes and regulates pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic therapies across multiple care settings, including controlled medications.
  • Prepares, dictates, and signs patient care plans and summaries, maintaining records per established standards.
  • Provides clinical direction to nursing staff regarding continued patient care and follows through to ensure recommended care is delivered.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles across the lifespan.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Physician Assistant license issued by the state of practice.
  • Physician Assistant (PA‑C) certification issued by NCCPA.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Either Nurse Practitioner (ANCC) or (AANP) certification.
  • DEA registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (may be obtained within 6 months).
Degrees
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
Required Functional Experience
  • Prefer acute or critical care experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • High level of clinical proficiency and excellent decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a health care team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to collaborate and build relationships.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and twist continuously throughout the workday.
  • Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Must push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation hazards, and blood/body fluids; protective clothing and equipment required.
  • Must operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
