Flexible schedule to meet department needs, including days, evenings, and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide variety of general and skilled maintenance activities (e.g., carpentry, painting, doors and locks (life safety), plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchen equipment, various building systems).
- Repair and assemble furniture to ensure safe working conditions.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections to ensure compliance with life safety codes and efficient operation of equipment, tools, and systems.
- Install system components, classroom and office equipment, and facility components (e.g., lighting, heating, ventilation, plumbing, electrical) to provide a safe and efficient learning environment.
- Prepare written materials (e.g., repair status reports, work orders) to document activities and convey information.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to gather and share information required for functions.
- Maintain assigned tools and equipment to ensure safe operating condition.
- Coordinate with supervisors to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
- Respond to maintenance emergency situations during and after standard work hours to resolve immediate concerns.
- Assist with minor snow removal as needed.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders, and vendors to accomplish responsibilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent plus additional specialized training.
- Three years’ experience in a related area.
- Valid state driver's license.
- EPA Type II Refrigerant Usage certification, or ability to obtain within one year of employment (preferred).
Skills and Specifications
- Ability to learn technical applications and grow with technology.
- General knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Operating equipment and tools used in skilled trades, computer systems, and software literacy (e‑mail, work order and building automation systems).
- Maintain required licenses and certifications.
- Read blueprints in various formats.
- Adhere to safety practices (OSHA standards, hazardous material handling, PPE, lifting techniques, ladder/lift use).
- Plan and manage projects under supervision.
- Communicate clearly and present information; understand complex instructions.
- Perform basic math functions.
- Work within scheduled time frames to complete projects and assignments.
- Flexibility to work with others in varied circumstances.
- Operate manual and power equipment safely.
- Responsible, trustworthy, thorough, and committed.
- Organizational and self‑directed skills.
- Ability to perform physical activities (bending, standing, climbing, walking).
