Quarry Manager

The Quarry Manager oversees daily quarry activities, including extraction, production and safety, while also managing reclamation efforts. Key responsibilities include leading staff, coordinating production to meet targets, ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, managing budgets, and developing and implementing long-term reclamation plans to restore the land after operations cease. Also manages all quality assurance programs, ensuring all materials and production processes meet regulatory requirements, technical specifications and industry standards.

Balances product excellence with strict adherence to MSHA, OSHA, IDOT, and state and federal regulations ensuring uncompromising level of safety.

• All quarry operations, including extraction, production, processing and shipping.
• Develop and implement production plans to meet company targets and forecasts.
• Monitor and control operational costs to improve efficiency and profitability.
• Oversee maintenance and repair of all quarry equipment to minimize downtime.

• Develop, implement and enforce comprehensive safety policies, programs and procedures for the aggregate operation, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations, including standards set by OSHA and MSHA, as well as environmental protection agencies.
• Monitor production processes to identify and address any quality issues or deviations from established standards and implement corrective and preventative actions.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all testing results, certifications, and quality control activities for audit readiness and reporting purposes.
• Analyze quality data and performance metrics to identify trends, conduct root cause analyses for non-conformities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure that all safety protocols and equipment (i.e. PPE) are being used correctly.
• Plan and deliver safety training programs for employees on proper safety practices, hazard recognition and emergency procedures.
• Lead incident investigations for all accidents, injuries and near misses to determine root causes and implement preventative measures.
• Manage all required regulatory reporting and documentation, including accident reports, safety meeting logs and environmental permits.
• Liaise with third-party laboratories and regulatory agencies during inspections and audits, serving as the primary point of contact for compliance matters.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, sales) to resolve quality-related issues and ensure product specifications meet customer needs.

• Lead, supervise and develop quarry and plant personnel.
• Manage employee performance through coaching, feedback and disciplinary actions with proper documentation when necessary.
• Coordinate attendance and time-off scheduling
• Oversee appropriate equipment maintenance and use.
• Working with Union 150 BA, assist with interviewing, hiring and training new staff.

• Plan, oversee and manage the progressive reclamation and closure of the quarry site.
• Develop and execute strategies for land rehabilitation to protect ecosystems and meet regulatory requirements.
• Maintain CCDD site compliance in accordance with EPA.
• Secure permits and maintain good community relations by demonstrating a commitment to responsible land stewardship.

• Perform administrative tasks, including inventory management, stock takes and activity reporting.
• Prepare and submit reports on production, costs and other key performance indicators.
• Manage budgets and forecast operational expenses.
