Lab Coordinator – Manufacturing and Advanced Technology

McHenry County College
Salary: $24.88–$35.12 hourly
Location: Crystal Lake, IL
Job Type: Staff – Full Time
Division: Academic Affairs
Department: Manufacturing & Advanced Technology
Workweek: 40 hours, typically 8:00 am–4:30 pm Monday to Friday (may require day, evening, weekend hours)

Position Summary

The Lab Coordinator facilitates the use of Manufacturing and Advanced Technology classrooms and labs by maintaining tools, equipment and vehicles; identifies vendors, obtains quotes, and manages supply inventories following college purchasing policies.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Oversee general maintenance and instructional setup for all lab and classroom spaces.
  • Catalog and maintain equipment in college software, track maintenance schedules, and document operating instructions.
  • Build training aids to support instruction.
  • Identify and order supplies, materials, equipment and services; maintain inventory and a check‑out system.
  • Conduct diagnostics, maintenance and repair on tools and equipment as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain safety manuals and material safety data sheets for lab spaces.
  • Process purchase orders, obtain I‑9 forms, verify accuracy, distribute to faculty and report completion.
  • Prepare labs for instructional dates and coordinate with faculty on maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist faculty in lab instruction setup and special events, and supervise open labs for students.
  • Train and oversee student employees in safe lab practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, vendors and stakeholders to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in a CTE program or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • OSHA certified forklift training within 60 days of start date.
  • Minimum one year of work experience in a lab environment.
Skills and Specifications
  • Basic work with word processing, spreadsheets and other computer functions.
  • Ability to learn and use equipment and maintenance software.
  • Strong organization, task prioritization and multitasking skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Willingness to keep up with evolving technology.
  • Troubleshoot routine equipment problems; self‑starter, independent worker.
  • Safe lifting of 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license.
