- Awaiting ASRH (Acute Stroke Ready Hospital) Designation
- 11 Inpatient Rooms + 2 ICU Rooms

- Hospitalist Services available 24/7 to support Inpatient care
- Emergency Physicians On-Site 24/7
- Leadership Support:
Nurse leaders on-site Monday–Friday during business hours. RN House Coordinators covering nights, weekends, and leadership gaps.

Position and ResponsibilitiesWorks under the direction of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Possesses expertise in sterile and aseptic technique and applies knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and relevant tools to support the physician in performing invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
May include day, evening, night, weekend, holiday, and on-call hours. Report-back time for on-call per department guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during the surgical procedure. Understand the procedure, anticipate the surgeon’s needs, and maintain a sterile field to ensure quality patient care.
- Assist the surgical team before, during, and after surgery: check instruments, supplies, and equipment; scrub, gown, glove, and set up sterile table with instruments and medications; assist with patient positioning and draping.
- Perform counts for sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulator prior to incision and before closure.
- Gown and glove the surgeon and assistants; maintain sterile technique; pass instruments to the surgeon; assist with dressing applications as directed.
- Assist in cleaning the operating room and prepping it for the next patient.
- Participate in department performance improvement activities and maintain positive interpersonal relations with the health care team.
- Understand age-related patient care needs and adapt to physicians’ needs and preferences; communicate updates to Team Lead.
- Mentor new employees and surgical technologist graduates; promote attainment of national certification and assist in education as needed.
- Complete projects as assigned by Team Lead and assist in training new partners or students, providing constructive feedback.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred. Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program required for surgical technologist role. LPN grandfathered (3) at Rockford campus in lieu of Surgical Technology program.
Certification and Licensure
Certified Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA; approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days. IL LPN Licensure grandfathered (3) at Rockford campus in lieu of Certified Surgical Technologist.
Passing the Driver’s License Check and/or Credit Check (for positions requiring). Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check. Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
