Position Summary

The Coordinator of Student Wellness provides a holistic approach to working with students that utilizes mental health, psychological, human development, and health promotion/public health principles to address issues of wellness and personal growth. In addition to providing brief, solution-focused counseling to students (individual and group) in need of mental health support, this position fosters relationships with campus and community organizations to provide wrap-around services for students.

The Coordinator will provide proactive, prevention-focused outreach to students, faculty, and staff cross-functionally with college partners to promote and reduce stigma around mental health and positive help-seeking behavior.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
  • Provide brief, goal-oriented counseling (individual and group) to students to assist them in overcoming emotional and mental health barriers to their academic success; implement plans to help students meet their intended goals.
  • Coordinate and present proactive and prevention-oriented educational information sessions and wellness programming in partnership with college departments and community agencies targeting key issues such as emotional wellness, stress management, sexuality, healthy relationships, eating concerns, sexual assault and violence prevention, bystander intervention, time management, HIV/STI prevention, tobacco cessation, accessing public aid programs and other topics of interest through workshops, tabling programs and class presentations to the MCC campus community.
  • Assist in the College's efforts to comply with local, state, and federal laws impacting student
  • Compile and distribute current health, wellness and social information pertinent to the growth and development of college students.
  • Collaborate with other offices on campus and refer students to appropriate campus resources for additional assistance.
  • Coordinate agreements with outside agencies (as appropriate), and maintain a current community referral resource list, making referrals as necessary and partnering with external agencies such as local counseling centers and social service agencies when appropriate.
  • Promote peer mental health support, developing a peer support network based in the recovery model of mental health care. dance interventions.
  • Maintain confidential case records, notes, and closing summaries on all students receiving clinical services using electronic record-keeping system. Compile and present appropriate statistical data.
  • Actively participate on the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT). Provide assistance and follow up to students referred to the BIT as needed. Provides crisis management when needed.
  • Participate in related professional activities, stays abreast of current legal and ethics issues in mental health and wellness in higher education as well as Title IX and Threat Assessment matters.
  • Partners with faculty, staff and students for consultation, walk-ins, and psycho-educational guidance regarding students of concern.
Required Qualifications
  • Fully licensed in mental health profession and able to practice independently (Counseling, Social Work, Licensed Psychologist).
  • Master's degree (MA) in a relevant field (Counseling, Social Work, Psychology).
  • At least three years of experience providing counseling to individuals
  • Experience in crisis response or crisis counseling
Desired Qualifications
  • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish
  • Experience as a mental health counselor in higher education
  • Experience in mental health and wellness programming and outreach.
  • Experience with individuals age 18+
